Jackson C. Simmons. He enlisted at Knoxville along with several other east Tennesseans. The 3rd Maryland Artillery was attached to Reynolds' Brigade after suffering heavy casualties at I believe, Island # 10 ? From what I've read the Union 3rd TN Mounted mostly made war on civilians on both sides. Their Colonel was reportedly " clubbed to death " after refusing to surrender in Monroe County. Drug out from under a house.
I'm also related to Captain Joseph Gray of Company H. He was killed by the Kirkland Bushwhackers following the war.
