I have thus far identified a hundred Englishmen serving in the southern and northern armies at Gettysburg - 26 Confederate and 74 Federals. However, Englishmen comprised about the same percentage of foreign-born soldiers (7.7% Confederate versus 8.1% Federal) in the two armies. The most senior among the entire group appears to have been Collett Leventhorpe, Colonel of the 11th North Carolina regiment, which was in the same brigade as the 26th regiment.
