Re: Year Without a Summer
In Response To: Re: Year Without a Summer ()

My grandfather (born Oct. 1873 and died 1960) who I grew up with, told the story of when he was a young lad of about 10 or 11 (1883/84) in late June, or early July (He always said that it was the 4th of July), He was plowing in the field when a freak storm came up out of the north. He swore that before he could get the mule to the barn, take the harness off and rubbing the Mule down in his stall, that it was snowing!!!

Now this would not have been so unusual maybe in northern Maine, but he was living at the time in Northern Alabama. Now I thought (at the time) that this was an old mans tall tale until I learned of Krakatoa. I have since heard of another such story.
