The majority of the Galvanized Yankees were formed into the 1st through 6th Regiments of the United States Volunteers. They also served in the following State Volunteer units: 1st CT Cavalry, 3d MD Cavalry (Companies D, E, F, & G), 3d PA Heavy Artillery (Battery M), 4th Delaware Infantry (Company C), 11th Ohio Cavalry, and Ahl's Battery.

Confederate forces composed of "galvanized Yankees": Confederate Regulars: Brooks' Battalion, Confederate Regular Infantry, Tucker's Confederate Regiment, 8th Confederate Battalion. They also served in the 10th TN, Burke's Battalion.
