Hey, I just remembered something about the Subject of this post. 30 years ago, when I was traveling and working in South Carolina, I would say "howdy" when I met someone. This is a common 'hello' greeting Texas, but evidently not in SC because invariably the other party would answer with something like, "I am fine, how are you?" So, this must be how Southerners talk back East.
