David, What was interesting to me was that Hood and Sherman exchanged almost 2,000 able bodied soldiers on September 19, 1864 at Rough and Ready, Georgia. This at a time when the Dix-Hill Cartel agreement was idle. Hood wanted to include prisoners from Andersonville and General Sherman objected. The exchanged ended up getting General Stoneman back for Sherman. The way the two generals had been going at it in their letters it's a wonder the exchange was even made.
