The passing of a Florida historian

Before, Tampa was a city the area was only known as Fort Brooke. Jim Singleton a good friend of mine passed away last night at a hospital due to cancer. Jim was perhaps the most knowledgeable person of Fort Brooke. The artifacts he recovered and the history he helped preserve are well known to history buffs in Tampa.

Jim had a terrific sense of humor up to his last days and will be missed by many. Jim's ancestor had been shot and later died in northern Florida by Confederate deserters. He now joins his ancestor Henry Singleton of the 29th Georgia Cavalry Battalion who died in 1864.
