This is from the pension file of Albert V. Caro-
"In 1861 I enlisted in the Home Patrol in Pensacola, Florida
Later on I joined the Jackson Guards
I was also a member of the Home Cavalry, all of Pensacola
I always faithfully discharged my duty"
"The companies in which I served were Home Guards, whose duty it was to protect the inhabitants and stores at Pensacola.
They were not in any Regiment or Battalion"
"About the first of April 1860  the Citizens of Pensacola Fla. organized a Company of men for the purpose of patrolling and such other duties as was necessary to protect the property, interests, and people in said vicinity. Among the members of this Company, Mr. Albert V. Caro, was sergeant, said Company was named and operated as The Jackson Guards."
