After digging, Fort Sumter did have some 32-pounder sea coast guns. This was taken on the parapet (or barbette tier) of the gorge wall behind the officers quarters. The brick structures in the picture are a row of large chimneys that protrude from the parapet floor. Engineer Forster reported one 8-inch sea-coast howitzer, two 32-pounders, and six 24-pounders on this portion of Fort Sumter.
