There are many children still around of soldiers but they do not receive pensions as they do not meet the government requirements.

A few years ago I believe there were about five or six still receiving pensions. One was from Tennessee and one from Iowa and of course Irene from North Carolina. I can't remember the other States. Although I do remember one had a father in the USCT but I don't recall which State.

It just a guess but the person you may be referring to may have been John W. Oliver Junior of Tennessee. His father (John W. Oliver Senior) had been with the 4th Tennessee Infantry (US) There is little doubt his father had been in the war and the son was alive in 2012 but I can't say with confidence the son had received a pension.
