This Rooster Cogburn was a close friend of my father-in-law, "Cowboy", who knew him for many years. Rooster lived his final years in the woods of the Ouachita Mountains 13 miles from Mena, AR. I met him twice and I used run by his house when I was visiting in-laws. On a good day, he would be sitting on the front porch whittling away. He had huge hands and arthritis, but that did not seem to bother him and he died peacefully in his home at the age of 104. He was larger than life. p.s. Rolling pins is not what made Rooster famous. He was a prolific moon shine runner in the 1930's. My brother-in-law owns and operates the Sugar Creek Lodge down the road. If you visit, he can show you Rooster's house, which I understand is still occupied by his family.
