That observation reminds me of another one. In 1862, Confederate (from Ft. Donelson) POW's at Camp Douglas were being offered release if they would sign the Oath of Allegiance. The prison commander noted those from Texas and Mississippi "are very hostile and do not wish any terms except to fight it out".
