Final numbers on the Jones County Affair.

May 17, 1864.Memphis Daily Appeal.

...the 6th and 20th Mississippi sent 500 deserters from Smith County, Miss., to their commands and 150 from Jones County, exclusive of those who returned voluntarily to their commands, of which there was about 1,000 from these and adjoining counties; nine men were hung, to shot dead, and one wounded. Colonel Lowry's loss was one killed and two wounded. The deserters arrested in Smith and Jones counties were from different counties and States.
