The O.R. has all the documents on the formation and management of the USCT. They selected their officers differently, their pay was different, the whole command structure was different. It was a different branch of service than the U.S. Army.

Also, they suffered nearly 70,000 deaths during the war....but less than 3,000 of those were from combat.
