The justification argument of the Southern Confederacy was "States Rights" wasn't it? What do you think that embodied? It was about much more than Slavery, but we will take slavery as an example.

You can run rabbits all day long about economics and tariffs and trade being the "Causes". BUT, all of those issues ultimately fall under the seperation of powers delegated to the States and those deletgated to the Federal Government which were few in 1860.

The Example of Slavery was NOT a FEDERAL Government issue under Article IV, Section 2, Paragraph 2 of the U.S. Constitution. The Federal Government did not have authority to regulate the buying, selling, or transportation of Slaves, OR ANY OTHER PROPERTIES. Those were State matters delegated to the States to solve as they saw fit. The only Federal involvement in such matters was the return of runaways who crossed State borders.

To prove this point the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which voided and repealed Article IV, Section 2, paragraph 2, had to be ratified by two thirds of the STATES, did it not? The United States Federal Government could not do that of it own authortity. And it could only do that with the votes of "Puppet occupation Governments" of the previous defeated Confederate States.
