Yes, Monroe County was one of the East Tenn. counties to approve the June 8 ordinance of secession. I saw where your relative was killed by the Kirkland Gang. Unionist and Confederate partisans fought a deadly battle in that neck of the woods. Kirkland was known to be particularly brutal. I know some of his descendants, my family being from that border area. One is a Baptist minister. Very decent man.
