Howell & Thomas Hinds of Mississippi

Howell Hinds was Holt Collier's master Holt always referred him to as the "old Colonel". Thomas was his son and a few years older than Holt. Holt stowed away at age 14 on a troop transport to be with them after the "old Colonel" told him he was too young to go. His marksmanship and horse skills were soon noticed by no less than N.B. Forrest. He soon ended up in Co.I 9th TX Cavalry.

I have Howell Hinds as a Private in "C" Co. MS Jefferson Light Artillery on 5/1/1861, and a Major and Staff Officer CSA.
CS Gen & Staff

Thomas Hinds as a Private in MS Herndon's Independent Battn Cavalry and a 1st Lieutenant CS Gen & Staff.

Does anyone have any other background info on their service ?
