Glenn, I think that most of the men in Company E of the 1st East Tenn. Calvary Regiment were from Polk County. I had some kin from around there. Speaking of which I have just finished reading a book( I think the first book) written about John P. Gatewood, by a Larry D. Stephens. Gatewood and his partisans sometimes operated around Polk County. Stephens views on the war, were to me, the usual simplistic PC views, however he did deal well with the personal complexities of Gatewood and others. Regards, James.
