Re: George W. Williams followup

We lose the story there because the information no longer exist. It seems after the destruction of his splendid plantation home (just after the end of the Civil War) he rebuilt a new home. In 1872 he was visited by a travel correspondent for a newspaper in Jackson, Mississippi and all was well with the Williams' family. The Union reports no longer mention him after they leave Simpson County, and I believe most of the hostages were left on the banks of the Pearl River. The only bright spot for the people of Simpson was one of there young men beat Grierson's lead elements to Hazlehurst and was able to spread the word of their approach in time for most of the military property to removed to safety.
