Letter to Pres. D. J. Trump and V. P.

President Donald Trump
1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW
Washington, DC 20500

President Trump,

Sir, I had written this letter sometime earlier, but due to the trouble with trying to get the repeal of Obamacare passed, I decided to wait to this later date to send it to you. Because of the subject, April, Confederate History Month is more appropriate.

With great anticipation, I sat down to watch your speech before the joint session of Congress Feb. 28, 2017, but I regret because of events beyond my control, I only caught the first few minutes of your speech where you addressed the hate, ignorance and bigotry displayed toward Jews, their cemeteries and their symbols. While I sympathize with the Jewish population because of the actions of the ignorant and hateful, it is nothing new to me.

You see, sir, I am a descendant of some noble Confederate soldiers and the destruction of our cemeteries, symbols, heritage and cause has been going on since I can remember. The attack on something, anything Confederate, is a daily occurrence. It doesn’t matter if it’s a street name, statue, or simply the truth about why the war was fought, the efforts to erase the TRUE history of our Confederate ancestors is real. I remind you that Judah Benjamin, Vice President of the Confederacy was of the Jewish faith.

You may say that we have the battlefields and the National parks to honor our Confederate ancestors but the truth suffers. The National parks that I have visited tell only one cause of the war and that is the story of slavery. Anyone who studies the causes of the war fully understands that money, not slavery, was the cause of the war. For those who would like to learn, I suggest a federally recognized Confederate History Month, currently celebrated in the South in April.

President Trump, I would hope that you correct this situation, condemn the hateful attacks on our Confederate ancestors and Heritage. Put in place some un-biased individuals over our National Parks and battlefields. Let’s tell the truth about the causes of the war without the bigotry and hate that persists against the Confederate Soldier, and finally Federal recognition of April as Confederate History would go a long way in educating the same ignorance that attacks the Jewish symbols here in the United States.

I have a proposal for a federally recognized Confederate History drawn up. I would very much like your permission to send it to you for your review. I have sent it to all Mississippi representatives in the past, but it seems they haven’t the backbone to propose such recognition. I have also recently challenged Senator Kaine to a debate on the Senate floor regarding slavery as an issue to the war. He has not responded at this time.

Best Regards,

George Purvis
