Re: Kansas/Nebraska
In Response To: Kansas/Nebraska ()

Only in respect in the K/N conflict created terrorist like John Brown and his ilk.

Abolitionist terrorist attacks on slavery, on common citizens, on Southern towns in 1859-60 turned patriotic Southerners into secessionist believers. Northern militant support for attacks on Southern citizens in the name of abolitionist causes moved the political needle in the South from anti-secession to pro-secession. The minority pro-secessionist fire-eaters in the South, who for decades politically countered the anti-slavery movements propaganda with pro-slavery propaganda, and who's only solution was disunion, now had allies who wanted to be free of these attacks.

The fire-eater propaganda's mantra followed the idea- States should secede to expand slavery. This was a lie and a myth, slavery could not be expanded and secession could not protect slavery. Abolitionist also promoted the idea that the slavery economy and culture was being expanded and winning, and the only solution was for free States to secede.
