If Andrew Jackson were president in 1860 instead of Old Buck would the war been averted? In other words would his assumed aggressive style to use federal forces early and desively stopped the secessions?

Old Buck had the same general in charge against S.C., Gen.W. Scott, as did Jackson. What was needed was clearer understanding of the state of the garrison at Ft. Moultrie and its officers. It was their actions, and their weakness, that put the already paranoid Charleston military officials to act as they did. The original C.O. of Ft. Moultrie had written to his superiors of a fear he was not ready to defend the forts in Nov., or before. So they send more officers? This was Scotts idea of reenforcement?
