New Source for Muster Rolls

This is new to me, since I have never seen it. In Simpson County, Mississippi the original rolls of each formed company was recorded by the County Clerks office. Apparently, even after the courthouse burned down in the 1870s the records somehow survived. In 1938 these rolls were printed in the local newspaper by the former county official and mayor of the County Seat Bee King. I have them, via the newspaper archives at the Mississippi Department of History and I am now transcribing them. These rolls have so many different persons them as compared to the "official" rolls publish by Dunbar Roland and the MDAH in the early 1900s. Many men on these rolls are not found in the Federal Census. Many of these men are not found in the Confederate Service records. These rolls have to be the raw rolls compiled by the enlisting officers and I am learning new things. Many of these men must have been later sent to other departments or non-combat functions. If you want to find more history on the men who enlisted find the County Clerks rolls of each county.
