“MAJOR ANDERSON PERMITED TO DEPART”

"RECEPTION OF THE NEWS AT MONTOMGERY” “Montgomery, April 14. – It is stated by authority of the Secretary of War, Honorable L. Pope Walker,that Major Anderson and his men are permitted to depart unmolested.

Ex United States Senator Wigfall, of Texas, received Major Anderson’s sword at Fort Sumter as aide de camp of General Beauregard.

All the force of the Confederate Government is to be concentrated at Fort Pickens.

Twenty regiments are offered by Tennessee for our service.

The Confederate Congress on assembling will declare war if the Government at Washington blockades the ports in the Confederate States.

Seven hundred National volunteers at Washington refuse to serve under Lincoln and denounce him.
An offer has been made to the Treasury Department to take the whole Confederate loan of fifteen million at par, by parties in New Orleans.

Secretary Toombs has received a dispatch from Honorable J. C. Breckinridge and Governor Magoffin, of Kentucky, stating that greatly excited sympathizers are entirely with the South. Seven thousand men of the Border States are under same, and have offered to move at a moment’s notice.

In reply to a message asking what was the feeling in Montgomery, President Davis says, rough and curt: Fort Sumter is ours, and nobody is hurt. With mortar, paixhan and (next word unable to transcribe) we tender old Abe our Beauregard.

When Major Anderson’s quarters were burning, General Beauregard sent offers of assistance, before the white flag was run up. Honorable L. T. Wigfall, of Texas, received the sword, and returned it to Major Anderson.

The fleet was still in sight off the Charleston harbor to-day.”
