Called into service at Sulphur Springs, Tenn., October 16, 1861

Sulphur Springs is located on the Piney River in northern Rhea
County, later known as “Rhea Springs”

The fourth company to enter the Confederate Army from Rhea County was an infantry company, organized at Sulphur Springs in October, 1861,

Miller, Wright Smith, 2nd Sgt., Co. B, enlisted October 16, 1861 at Sulphur Spring, Tenn. as Pvt., advanced to 2 Sgt. May 1862, wounded in the arm at Vicksburg June 22, 1863, captured in hospital and paroled at Vicksburg July 4-15, 1863, shipped with paroled sick and wounded prisoners from Vicksburg July 24, 1863 to Mobile, Ala., via New Orleans, La., present at March 11, 1864 muster, wounded November 14, 1864 at Russelville, Tenn., married Orpha J. Darwin, moved to Texas in 1875, attested Texas pension application of W. S. Roddy, Co. B, April 6, 1915, died in Delta Co., Texas June 2, 1919, brothers W. H. Miller and J. L. Miller also of Co.
