John Brown, 34 year-old Farmer, Private, Capt. William K. Perrin’s Company (Gloucester Invincibles), 26th Regiment Virginia Infantry,* enrolled for active service for 12 months April 20, 1861 at Rowes Store by P. R. Page, re-enlisted for the war February 24, 1862, receipted for extra duty pay for 16 days as a Carpenter October, 1863, 30 days November, and 15 days December, 1863, signing with an ‘X’, “his mark,”assigned Guard Duty December 20, 1863, receipted for an issue of clothing August 11, 1864 at Howard’s Grove & Chimborazo Hospital, Richmond, Va,, surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Virginia April 9, 1865, paroled April 11-21

* This company was successively designated as Captain Page’s Company,** Captain Perrin’s Company, and Company F, 26th Regiment Virginia Infantry

** Previously from the 21st Regiment Virginia Militia, Gloucester County. Mustered into the service of the State of Virginia April 20, 1861
