The man killed was in the 9th Battn. Miss. Sharpshooters.The reference I have (George Lea Co. C 7th Regt. Miss.) says that men of the Sharpshooters were the main victims. The accident occurred August 1, 1862 south of Greenville, AL. The accident involved the north bound troop train running into parked cars while going around a curve. Private Lea said he saw it coming and jumped off the flat car spraining his ankle.
