Re: John Jackson Kirkland
In Response To: John Jackson Kirkland ()

I am named dafter him from my mothers side of the family Kirkland/Job from Cherokee, Iowa. I am related from my great grandmother being a Kirkland Martha/Mary Kirkland who married John U. Jobe. They settled into Iowa and from Ohio area they all were part Cherokee Indian and so was the Kirkland clan. They all had settled 200 years ago in the upstate Cherokee Towns known as the over hill Cherokee towns in the state of Tennessee. The Kirkland Cherokee's belonged to the Paint Clan one of the seven clans of the Cherokee Nation. Several Kirklands also served in the war of 1812-1815 and the war against England 1774-1783 with and against the British. Nathan Kirkland saved President Jackson's life during the war of 1812 at the battle of Horseshoe Bend. Against the Red Stick Creeks which Sam Houston was also with Jackson and the Cherokee's. He was known as the Raven. Later President Jackson turned on his Indian allies and forced most to move to Oklahoma/Arkansas.
