Ron, The newspaper the Mobile Register carried a story on August 5, 1862 but this wreck occurred just above Citronelle, Alabama a good distance from your wreck in or around Butler County, Alabama. I'll quote the title. "FEARFUL RAILROAD DISTASTER" Three miles above Citronelle. The wreck happened about 6 am on August 4, 1862. A few soldiers killed and many injured as they jumped before the wreck but no names or units mentioned. It's a rather lengthy article.
