Glenn, how have you been this winter? You and David are absolutely right about Newt Knight. Yes, are sympathies are for the Confederacy during the WBTS. That said, we both have East TN. ancestors who fought for the Union. For their own valid reasons. They however were lawful uniform combatants. Newt Knight was never a commission officer, Newt Knight was never in the Union Army and Newt Knight was not "a freedom fighter". He was however a vandal. He was an adulterer ( with his ex-slave mistress). He was a brigand. It is a sad commentary that people want to tear now monuments to men like Lee, Jackson and glorify someone like Knight. No doubt some leftist group will want to build a statue to him after seeing the movie. A sad time in our country. Regards, James.
