In 1861, there were no counties in (present day) West Texas. There were 17 counties in North and South Texas that did not vote for Secession and just one in East Texas (Angelina). 122 counties voted for Secession and approx. 90,000 Texans were enlisted in the CSA army and/or the Texas State Troops. Barely 2,000 men traveled to Occupied New Orleans to enlist in either the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th Union Cavalry (Texas). The recruitment and retention was so poor they barely had enough for a regiment in 1863, so by 1864 there was only the 1st TX Cavalry. But, some nutjob might very well distort the facts surrounding the Gainsville Hangings or the bloodshed in South Texas and make another sham movie.
In 1861, a substantial percentage of adults living in North Texas were immigrants from Missouri and Northern states while a large percentage of folks in South Texas were German immigrants who fled after losing their civil war in 1848.
