Re: Question for Dennis

George, There are some CMSR's who do not appear in the work of General Ainsworth and his staff for some unknown reasons to me. However some of these records do appear in micro film collections at the NARA in DC. A few Mississippi soldiers appear in the work of Andrew Booth and his work in Louisiana although not in great detail. If you can provide me with a name of a soldier who does not have a CMSR on fold 3 and the unit I can look at the micro film collection at the NARA and see if he is there. Always be sure to check the miscellaneous files on fold 3 and the Confederate Units (non States) as well. Another option is to check the citizen files on fold 3. Always be broad in your search.

With all the misspellings or intentional misspellings it is a challenge. I know of no short cut to your problems.

I just finished up with a new category while doing the Chase biographies. I listed them by the county the soldiers were living in according to the 1860 census alone who had died at Camp Chase. Choctaw County, Mississippi led the way. However many soldiers were not listed on the 1860 census and some may have moved since 1860 to another location or vice-visa. I thought it was interesting that Choctaw County had the most dead at Camp Chase. Because of the treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek in 1830 many of the Choctaw Indians who wanted to stay and become citizens were allowed to stay. The others were taken on the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma.

There were two with the 3rd Mississippi Infantry and both from Harrison County, Mississippi. One with Company F and the other from H. However if my memory is correct today Stone County, Mississippi was then a part of Harrison County.
