A bad day for William Carter

The Battle of Allatoona Pass, Georgia on October 5, 1864 was not a major battle but a bloody affair nonetheless. Iowa is adjacent to Missouri on the top side. William Carter of Company E of the 39th Iowa Infantry lost his life that day and is buried at the Marietta Cemetery.

Major William Carter of the 2nd Missouri Infantry also lost his life on the same day and place.
