Jim, I should have also mentioned the Sioux Uprising Minnesota in 1862 but could not remember how many Indians had commuted death sentences by President Lincoln.
After looking more into detail I concur the worst mass hangings in American History of human beings was in Minnesota unless someone would argue the hangings in Texas were those of white citizens.
About the only good issue that came out of the Sioux uprising for the Confederacy in my opinion was the appointment of John Pope to command the Union Army in the East.
