I just read that Kamau Bell, of the CNN show United Shades of America, learned his ancestor, a white man was not what he was taught.

His ancestor was C. J. Dockery, or Carroll J. Dockery of Monroe, Alabama. Supposed to have owned his ancestral gggrandmother as a slave and had thirteen children by him. Ancestry proved that story was not true. He had the children but he did not own her, he did not own any slaves and they lived together as husband and wife. He may have even been a Confederate soldier in Captain B. S. Rives Alabama Support unit as shown on a POW roll.
