In Georgia during the war there was a salt list. A confederate soldier from Georgia serving in the war was added to a salt list. This list provided his wife and family an extra ration of salt. I found it on micro-film and they war broken down by counties in Georgia and it is a good way to confirm the soldiers wives names and if the soldier had died the salt list listed his widow.
Since I do not read others published works it hard for me to say if this is something new just for me or rather old news and I'm one of the last to know about it.
But the list does exist and again I don't know if this was just unique for Georgia or other southern States had a salt list.
