Recorded on August 31, 1861 as Nurse in hospital at Camp Pickus
[sp?] August 25

Present at bi-monthly muster for Sep - Oct, 1861

Discharged December 3, 1861 on certificate of General Debility at Camp
Kirby Smith, Centerville, near Manassas

* This company was successively designated as Captain Funchess’
Company, Mississippi Volunteers, and as Captain Funchess’
Company, and Company B, 16th Regiment Mississippi Infantry

Service records for the 4th Mississippi Cavalry are extremely sparse and there are no records for his Company F prior to June 30, 1864.

From Genealogy.com, we learn he enlisted ih the 4th Cavalry about July, 1862. Being a Doctor he worked himself to excess and eventually died of “Camp Cancer,”(Strep Throat), and buried in Clinton LA
