This sparked my interest. Has anyone done research on Clay Beauford (born Welford Chapman Bridwell; September 27, 1846 – February 1, 1905)? He was a Confederate soldier who fought at Gettysburg and many other engagements and went on to win the Medal of Honor in the Indian Wars?

I found a Wellford or Wilford C. Bridwell in Company B, 30th Virginia.

After looking at the bios of MOH winners there maybe many more ex-Confederates that won it, they just have not been identified as having served in the Confederate Army.
