The badge certainly had a limited usage. It was only issued to George Hume Steuart's Brigade - 1st & 3rd NC State Troops, and 10th, 23rd, & 37th VA Infantry regiments. It is likely only 100-150 of the badges were issued to the stewards, ambulance drivers, stretcher-bearers, etc. of the five named regiments.
It is hoped that with the word being spread, someone will remember seeing this "unknown" badge located somewhere.
