In Response To: Attn: Joe Allport ()

Didn't get a quick response from Joe, not sure he even comes by anymore, so I took it upon myself to write this letter to Gov. Abbott of Texas.

***************************************************

Gov. Abbott,

Sir I have just read several articles that state you intend to remove or replace several Confederate monuments in the state of Texas. One of these monuments slated to be removed is the Children of the Confederacy plaque in the Texas capitol. It is my understanding the cause for the removal is the plaque makes the statement that slavery was not the cause of the so called Civil War.

That sir is a true statement.

I also am of the understanding that proof slavery was the cause of the war lies in the Texas secession document. That is not true at all.
I challenge you are Rep. Eric Johnson to prove the Secession document is anything other than a list of grievances Texas made against the Federal government.

This is not a war declaration.

To be perfectly the war did not begin in Texas, it was South Carolina. The real issue of the war was revenue. This was stated by Buchanan and Lincoln. Slavery had nothing to do with the war.

Now sir my question is do you want real history facts or are you willing to accept the word of a biased individual with very few or no facts? I can provide you with facts that support the statements I make. These facts come from historical documents and the words of Presidents Buchanan, Lincoln, and Davis. Would you accept these facts is the question?

As a matter of fact sir, I am so sure of my facts, I challenge you, your state board of education, Rep. Johnson and anyone else you choose, to an open debate on the issue. You may choose the place and time, if circumstances do not prevent me from attending, I'll be there at my cost. We can work out details later if that is acceptable to you.

Do you accept?

In closing sir it is time for all Confederate descendants to stand and for the truth and stop these very malicious lies from destroying our heritage. I do accept that challenge willingly.

Best regards,

George Purvis
