Confederate Flag Placement

We place flags on Confederate Graves every year in April. I guess we just never thought about the correct placement of a Confederate Flag on a Confederate Grave, until this morning. One of our members called and asked where. My answer was I always place the flag (when possible). Standing at the foot looking at the head stone on the right side of the Head stone, this would be on the left side of the man laying in the grave. My thought was this is on the side closest to the man's heart. If you look it up on the internet, it gives multiple places to place an American Flag but none for a Confederate Flag.
Anyone have a correct way. Sometimes it is impossible to put a flag there because of rocks or even concrete just under the surface, so we have had to put the flag in the nearest location that we can get it in the ground.
