My grandparents used lard for a lot of things besides cooking. I seem to always get stung by a wasp or bee, they would break out the lard and tobacco. Still hurt by golly. Boils ---lard a piece of bacon and gauze, usually a worn out sheet. Dog had a raw spot on his butt from knowing at it, here comes the lard.

Not sure if it is sold anymore, haven't noticed it in stores in a while.
