The National Archives is quietly making high resolution downloads of their raw records for free.
The only issue is their search engine is very hard to master. A large part of the problem is the lack of quality tags on the information.
You can create an account and add information to the raw records to make them relevant to historians looking for them.
The Civil War records available are growing.

Raw records of select Confederate companies are available.

Ammunition inventories
