While most of my civil war ancestors fought for the Confederacy. I did have East TN Union soldiers in my family. One was in the 1st TN Infantry USA. Also they were mounted for a year. Called the 1st East TN Mounted Infantry. Their Colonel, while loyal to the Union, owned quite a few slaves. That said Colonel Robert K. Byrd was an efficient officer.
