You are correct slavery was worldwide and long before the United States. My point is since this is a United States, more specifically a WBTS discussion board, that slavery was legal in the United States, and not just the Southern states. It is NOT the reason for the war.

Now I know you didn't say such but there are those who believe that only WHITE SOUTHERNERSowned slaves and the entire cause of secession and the war was slavery, nothing is farther away from the truth than these ideas.
