My ancestor who was a sharpshooter & NOT with the 4th Mich. Regts but rather with the "fill-in" reserve units from the 15th IA Inf. picked up a Confederate Officers white handled sword on battlefield of Shiloh. He carried it with him thru-out the remainder of the Civil War & brought it home with him as souvenir
