Re: Pvt. E. Watkins--S.C. Artillery?

At Gettysburg, Lt. William W. Fickling's battery (Brooks SC Artillery) suffered severely. Of 70 men taken into the fight, 10 were killed, 20 were mortally or severely wounded, and 12 were less seriously wounded. I have a casualty list from the battle containing only 26 names; Private Watkins does not appear on this list. Fickling, who was promoted to Captain afterwards, wrote a very brief report of the campaign on 3 August 1863 that can be found in the Supplement to the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies, vol. 5, part I, p. 365 (Wilmington, NC: Broadfoot Publishing Company, 1995)
