Hi Christie,

The National Archives lists no soldier of record by the name of Calvin Medlin. However, it does list three soldiers who were in South Carolina units and had the last name of Medlin and a first initial of "C." See these names below.

Do you happent to know his middle initial? If it was D or H, he could be one of the last two soldiers below. He could also be the first soldier listed below. ... Finally, it is estimated that some 10% of the Confederate soldiers are not listed in the National Archive records for various reasons. So it is also possible that your g.g. grandfather was a Confederate soldier but is not listed among the "soldiers of record" in the NA.

Medlin, C.
7th Battalion, South Carolina Infantry (Nelson's) (Enfield Rifles)

Medlin, C.D.
Palmetto Sharpshooters Regiment, South Carolina (Jenkins') (1st Palmetto)

Medlin, C.H.
Palmetto Sharpshooters Regiment, South Carolina (Jenkins') (1st Palmetto)

Best regards,

Mike Bailey
