I don't check this site often, so pardon the delay. I have a brief sketch of Heyward but not before me. He served with Company A (Washington Light Infantry) of the Hampton Legion Infantry. If I recall correctly, he was discharged for minority, and later entered the State Military Academy. He lived in Columbia postwar, and by his marriage to Salie Coles he was connected with the rominent Jones family from North Carolina and Rock Hill. He died in Columbia but is buried in Beaufort at the Episcopal Church downtown. I will get you the details of his service with the Legion and source data in a day or so.
