Re: Pvt. William Joseph Crapse, Hampton Co.

There was a PVT William J. CRAPS/CARPPS/CRAPSE/CROPPS in Co. D, 24th SC Infantry. He enlisted at age 37 at Camp Gist, James Island, SC, on 16 Feb 1862, and was a resident of Beaufort District (from which Hampton Co. was formed after the war). He was severely wounded and captured at Franklin, TN, on 30 Nov 1864, resulting in the amputation of the lower third of his left leg on 17 Feb 1865. He died of exhaustion at USA General Hospital, Nashville, TN, on 11 Mar 1865, and is buried in Grave No. 12462, City Cemetery, Nashville, TN. Hope this helps.
